Web Application Development Cost in India (2026)

· 6 min read

A web application is software that runs in the browser and does work: it takes bookings, tracks orders, generates documents and gives customers or staff their own login. In India, a focused web application typically costs ₹60,000–₹1,20,000 and a multi-module system ₹1,20,000–₹3,00,000. This guide explains what sits behind those numbers, what pushes a quote up, and how to get a fixed price you can trust.

The Short Answer

₹60,000 – ₹1,20,000

Single-purpose tool: a booking system with an admin panel, a simple customer portal

₹1,20,000 – ₹3,00,000

Multi-module application with user roles, reports and integrations

4 – 10 weeks

Typical delivery, driven mostly by the number of modules

These are the ranges we work in at Growbz, fixed against a written scope. Large agencies charge more for the same scope because of overheads; freelancers sometimes charge less and leave out the admin panel, testing or documentation. The useful question is not "what is the cheapest quote" but "what exactly does each quote include".

Website or Web Application?

The difference decides which budget you are in. A website shows information: pages, photos, a contact form. A web application stores records, applies rules and has logins. If your brief contains "and then the system should…", for example "and then the system should assign the job to a technician and message the customer", you are describing an application. If you only need pages, our website cost guide is the better starting point.

Cost by Type of Web Application

Type What it usually includes Typical range
Booking or appointment system Slots and availability, confirmations by WhatsApp or email, admin calendar ₹60,000 – ₹1,20,000
Customer or dealer portal Logins, orders, invoices and documents per customer ₹60,000 – ₹1,20,000
Admin dashboard and reporting Data from your existing tools on one screen, with exports ₹60,000 – ₹1,20,000
Workflow system Quotations, approvals, job cards, with roles for each team ₹1,20,000 – ₹3,00,000
Several modules together For example orders, inventory and billing with roles and reports ₹1,20,000 – ₹3,00,000

A product you plan to sell to many businesses as a subscription (SaaS) is a larger undertaking, because it needs separate accounts per customer, billing and stronger security from the start. Scope it in phases: build the smallest version that one paying customer would use, then grow it.

What Moves the Price

  • Screens and user types. Each extra role, such as admin, staff, customer or vendor, adds screens and permission rules.
  • Business rules. Discounts, approvals, stock rules and pricing logic are where most of the real work hides.
  • Integrations. Razorpay payments, WhatsApp and SMS notifications and Tally exports are common and well understood; an older system with no API can cost more than the rest of the build.
  • Reports. A simple list is cheap; a report with filters, totals and exports for each role is not.
  • Data migration. Moving years of records out of spreadsheets or old software is priced by how messy the data is.
  • Design. A clean standard interface costs less than a custom-designed one; for internal tools, standard is usually right.

The admin panel is not optional. Almost every web application needs a back office where your team manages users, records and settings. A low quote that does not list it as a line item will usually come back as a change request.

The Costs After Launch

  • Hosting. Most business web applications run on ordinary shared or VPS hosting. There should be no per-user licence fee for software you paid to have built.
  • Maintenance. Security updates, small changes and the occasional fix. With us, defects in the agreed scope are fixed free for 90 days; after that it is a monthly retainer or per-request work. Our maintenance cost guide covers what a plan should include.
  • New features. Budget for a second phase. Once people use the system, they will ask for things nobody thought of in the scope, and that is a good sign.

How to Keep the Cost Down

  1. Start with one process. Automate the most painful workflow first and add modules once it is in use.
  2. Bring real examples. Your actual spreadsheets, forms and edge cases make the scope accurate and stop surprises later.
  3. Keep what works. If Tally or a SaaS tool already does a job well, integrate with it instead of rebuilding it. Our guide to custom software versus off-the-shelf explains when to build around a tool.
  4. Choose standard design for internal tools; save custom design for screens your customers see.
  5. Insist on a fixed price against a written scope. Hourly billing on an unclear brief is how budgets double.

How to Compare Quotes

Put every quote against the same checklist: the screens and roles listed, the admin panel, each integration named, testing with your real data, deployment, documentation, ownership of the code and database, and the defect-fix period. Two quotes that differ by half usually differ in what they include, not in hourly rates. Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a web application cost in India?

Typically ₹60,000–₹1,20,000 for a single-purpose tool such as a booking system or portal, and ₹1,20,000–₹3,00,000 for a multi-module system with roles, reports and integrations. The final price depends on screens, rules, integrations and data migration.

How long does it take to build a web application?

Four to ten weeks for most business applications, depending on the number of modules. You should see working software every week rather than waiting until the end.

Is a web application cheaper than a mobile app?

Usually, because one web application works on every device through the browser. Many businesses start with a web application, often made installable as a PWA, and add store apps later only if users need them. See native vs hybrid vs PWA for that decision.

Who owns the web application after it is built?

You should. Make sure the contract gives you the source code, the database and the hosting account in your name, with documentation another developer can follow.
